Climate change is one of the major challenges of our time and adds considerable stress to both individuals and communities as a whole. From shifting weather patterns that threaten food production, to rising sea levels that increase the risk of catastrophic flooding, the impacts of climate change are global in scope and unprecedented in scale. Without drastic action today, adapting to these impacts in the future will be more difficult, costly and almost impossible.

The most dangerous climate changes may still be avoided if we transform from hydrocarbon based energy systems and initiate rational and adequately financed adaptation program to forestall disasters and migrations at unprecedented scales. The tools are available, but they must be applied immediately and aggressively.

Thus Business Managers need to understand that sustainability is the collection of policies and strategies employed by companies to minimize their environmental impact on future generations. Ecological concerns, such as the environmental impact of pollutants are balanced with socio-economic concerns such as minimizing the consumption of limited natural resources to maintain their availability for the future.
